Another excellent meeting and a great guest speaker, with lots of questions of Joel. I think we have had some good guest speakers, but need feedback from the members on the type of speakers you want me to source.
March is WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Month.  1 in 3 people in this world lack access to clean water. Many die due to water-borne illnesses. Rotary has invested over $148 million in water, sanitation, and hygiene projects around the world.
A report from our YEP Student Parker Schultz in Germany.
Our project in Cambodia to provide bathrooms in isolated villages is going ahead and we hope to have a more detailed report soon.
Rotary's first project was a water one.
Another lovely social meeting at the Ashmore tavern
THIS WEEKS MEETING.
President Brian welcomed John Stanfield and Greg Clogan (back from their recent illness) and Norm Coventry, visiting Rotarian. Our special guest tonight is Joel McInnes re basketball on the Gold Coast.
Deb Daly introduced Joal, who is best friends with her son Nathan and has been a close family friend since school days.  Joel is the CEO of the GC Basketball Association. Joel told about the historical teams that played and were very successful at Carrara since 1959.  He spoke about the Mission and Vision statements and values of the Association.  There were 1900 members in 2014 and now have over 5000 members. This was partly due to the popularity of basketball worldwide. New stadiums were built at Carrara. This brought its own problems with a lack of coaches, umpires and volunteers. A large part of his role is managing bad behaviour of the younger members of the association. Also ensuring all members of the organisation are authentic and respectful with each other.
FEEDBACK SURVEY - Rob encouraged all members to complete the survey and send it back to him.
PRESIDENT BRIAN thanked members for their donations for the Easter Egg raffle.  Ticket sales start next week.
